Colorado Paycheck Calculator 2026

4.4% flat state tax rate in Colorado, plus 1 employee payroll program on the stub.

Colorado applies a flat 4.4% to your federal taxable income, and the FAMLI paid-leave program takes another 0.44% of pay (employee share, capped at $184,500). A TABOR refund could still trim the 2026 rate at filing time. This calculator uses the official DR 1098 figures.

The mechanics

Flat 4.40% - on the federal base, with a FAMLI twist

Colorado keeps its income tax unusually simple: 4.40% of your federal taxable income. Because the base is federal, the federal standard deduction ($16,100 single, $32,200 joint) does the deducting - Colorado adds no separate one. One number, one multiplication.

The line workers actually ask about is FAMLI, the paid family and medical leave program. The premium is 0.88% of wages up to $184,500, split evenly: your half is 0.44%, about $264 a year on a $60,000 salary. Several national calculators still omit it, which is why their Colorado number can run higher than reality feels - ours includes it, sourced from the official rate notice. Employers are allowed to pay part or all of the employee share, so your own stub may show less than the calculator assumes.

Two footnotes for 2026: under TABOR, a temporary rate cut at filing is possible if the state revenue certification (expected around September) triggers it - withholding stays 4.40% all year regardless. And Denver's $5.75-a-month occupational privilege tax is a flat head tax on people earning at least $500 a month there, not a percentage of pay, so it is not modeled in the calculator above.

One Colorado caveat worth knowing before you file. Your employer withholds a flat 4.40% all year, and that is what this page shows. But under TABOR, a temporary rate cut at filing is possible — SB 24-228 sets the mechanism, and whether it triggers for 2026 is certified around September 2026 and is not determined yet. If it does, your return settles the difference; nothing changes on your stub.

Questions people ask about Colorado paychecks

What is the FAMLI deduction on my Colorado paycheck?

Colorado's paid family and medical leave premium: 0.88% of wages up to $184,500, split half and half with your employer. Your share is 0.44% - about $264 a year at a $60,000 salary - and it is included in this calculator's result.

Does Denver have a city income tax?

Not a percentage one. Denver charges a flat occupational privilege tax of $5.75 a month for employees earning at least $500 a month in the city - a head tax, not an income tax, and small enough that this calculator leaves it out.

Could Colorado's 4.40% rate drop this year?

Possibly at filing time. Under TABOR, a temporary rate reduction can trigger if the state's revenue certification - expected around September 2026 - calls for one. Withholding stays at 4.40% all year either way; any cut shows up on your return.
