Texas Paycheck Calculator 2026
No state income tax on wages in Texas — federal tax and FICA are the whole story below.
Texas takes nothing from your paycheck: the state constitution has banned a personal income tax since 2019 (art. 8, sec. 24-a), and no Texas city or county taxes wages either. Every deduction on a Texas stub is federal - income tax, Social Security and Medicare. This calculator shows exactly how much that federal-only stub leaves you.

Texas withholding rates for 2026
Texas levies no state income tax on wages in 2026, so there is no state withholding table to publish. What is withheld from a Texas paycheck is federal, plus any state payroll program listed above.
Every line on a Texas pay stub is federal: income tax at your bracket, Social Security at 6.2% of wages up to the $184,500 cap, and Medicare at 1.45% (plus 0.9% on wages above $200,000). There is no state line to check, because there legally cannot be one: since 2019, article 8, section 24-a of the Texas Constitution flatly forbids the legislature from taxing individual income. Voters put that lock in place themselves, approving Proposition 4 by 74%.
The lock keeps tightening. In November 2025, Texans also voted to constitutionally ban any tax on capital gains. Unwinding either rule would take a new amendment: two-thirds of both chambers plus another statewide vote.
One more absence worth noticing: no Texas city or county taxes wages either. A worker in Houston keeps the same share as one in a small panhandle town, which is not true of, say, New York City or Detroit.
Texas unemployment insurance is real, but employers pay all of it. If a Texas stub ever shows an employee-side "state UI" deduction, that is a payroll error worth flagging to HR.
Why is my Texas paycheck still so much smaller than my salary?
The federal government does not care where you live. Federal income tax by bracket, Social Security at 6.2% up to the wage cap, and Medicare at 1.45% come out of every US paycheck. What Texas removes is the state layer on top - often several thousand dollars a year compared with a high-tax state.
Do Houston, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio charge a city income tax?
No. No Texas city or county taxes wages. City revenue comes from sales and property taxes, which never appear on a paycheck.
Can Texas ever introduce a state income tax?
Not without asking voters again. The 2019 constitutional amendment (Proposition 4, approved 74% to 26%) bans it outright, so it would take two-thirds of both legislative chambers plus a new statewide vote to undo.
Is Texas unemployment tax taken out of my pay?
No. Texas unemployment insurance is funded entirely by employers, who are barred from deducting it from paychecks. Only three states (Alaska, New Jersey, Pennsylvania) tax employee wages for unemployment insurance.

Texas Comptroller (taxes list + Fiscal Notes) — 'Texas does not have a personal income tax' - state source; no income tax or employee payroll levy in the Comptroller's full tax list.
Tax Foundation, local income taxes survey(secondary source) — No Texas city or county levies an income/wage tax (17 states have local income taxes; Texas: none - municipalities hold their taxing power from a legislature that is itself barred).
